Using a book to get clients is a centuries-old practice.
The first known book, The Diamond Sutra, dates back to 868 AD. Granted, this book was unlikely used to attract clients to a business, however, it speaks volumes as to the relevance of the written word. Holding a new book in your hand and smelling the pages as you flip through it, never gets old.
In addition, with the advent of digital books, online selling, self-publication, etc the book world has exploded. With this new charge of activity, being an author in today’s world got a whole lot easier. Access to countless types of software, social media platforms, ghostwriters, and e-publication houses such as Amazon and Barnes & Nobel, makes it easier to write and publish a book for your business.
How to attract your ideal client with a book.
We all recognize a solid content strategy for your business is a must. (Hey I’m writing this blog for you). However, writing a book and being an author has several advantages to attracting clients. My very first professional writing project was gained because I was a published author. I backed up my abilities and experience with my book.
My book, like yours one day, elevated my brand and my client chose me over the other 100 applicants. Of course, they were mesmerized by my charm(LOL) but the book was the clincher. People want to work with people they know, like, and trust. A book speeds up the process for your potential clients.
1. The right people will find you.
Once you have your book or ebook published, you can send it out through social media, email, your website, affiliate websites, and so on. I am a big fan of creating and using ebooks for marketing as they are very versatile. For instance, a digital book can be as short as 5 pages and be used on almost every digital platform for marketing.
Another helpful idea is to put a small charge on your book. A popular price is $4.99 as it is a low investment for a potential client looking for additional information without the fear of locking into a long-term commitment. The goal is to gain them as a client, which can happen after they purchase your ebook and begin to trust you and your work.
2. You are the authority in your field.
Books elevate your authority as a business expert. A book should include a bit about you as a person but the main point should be about your work. It will demonstrate your knowledge, experience, and accountability within your industry.
I recommend adding true stories to help your prospect understand how you can solve their problem(s). There is an old adage that states: “Features tell, stories sell.” So create your story and start selling! A point to remember is if you are going to tell a story of a client, then get their permission first, or better yet, don’t use any names and keep it generic.
3. Books help elevate your brand.
There are many ways to elevate your brand but using a book with all your marketing efforts will increase it exponentially. This of course brings in clients. This makes you money. This keeps your business flush with prospects wanting to hire you.
A book with your name on it will show your prospects not only what you do but more importantly, how you do it. They are coming to you looking for answers. Just look at the popularity of YouTube. Millions of people seek information on YouTube every single day. They are in search of answers to their problems- so give it to them in a book.
4. You can use your book in countless ways.
The list is long but I have sorted a few of my favorites for you.
- Your book can be divided into bite-size pieces and given away for free(lead magnet).
- Blog sections of your book. This helps with SEO on your website too.
- Use it for a contest.
- Use it to get speaking engagements.
- Create a free webinar with your book giveaway to people who sign up.
- Promote it on all social media platforms.
- Have someone interview you about your book. Think of popular podcasts.
- Do book signings at your local coffee shops, library, or trade shows.
- I can go on but I have to finish this blog. 😉
